My long-time friends Bryenna and Steven invited me to photograph their wedding. I knew it would be an amazing day. I am a storyteller. I create images candidly. I do not use special effects. I also avoid an entourage of black-suited assistants or awkward light kits. I capture the story of a wedding through emotion.
My hope was they didn’t even notice I was there.

Shooting in a documentary fashion means I’m watching and observing, ready to catch those moments as they happen. A wedding day belongs to the bride and groom, not the photographer. That means we did not drive to far away locations for posed photos. That’s what engagement sessions are for.
And yes, we did those.

Every wedding and venue is unique. “Getting ready” can happen (and does) almost anywhere. Mirrors help framing in tight spaces if I can stay out of my shot.

The wedding and reception were in the Kansas City Club. I could discretely move close enough to capture shoot-thru’s as well as the entire wedding party. And for the kiss, I took my image and remotely triggered a second camera at the back of the room, making sure I was hidden by the kissing couple

After all, real love deserves real images.
